ISO 22301 is the international standard for a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS). It sets out requirements to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disruptions such as cyberattacks, system failures, or natural disasters, and it applies to any organization that wants to protect its critical operations, regardless of sector or size.

The standard has 10 clauses in total. Clauses 1 to 3 cover scope, references, and terms. Clauses 4 to 10 are the operational requirements, covering context of the organization, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement, with clause 8 (Operation) as the core of the BCMS, since it covers business impact analysis, risk assessment, and continuity plans.
